A hardy deciduous clump forming fern with pale green fronds and striking bright red stems in spring, they prefer damp conditions with full/part shade. They are unusual for a fern as they produce lots of bulbils on the underside of the fronds , these then drop of in late summer and form new young ferns that can spread readily. They are suitable for containers, borders and rockeries.
