Small, family-run retail nursery established in 1997 on the outskirts of York.
Where Alchemy Began
In the early years, we specialised in perennials and climbers. Over time, our interest in ferns steadily grew into something much more focused. What began as part of the nursery has now become its heart – and today we dedicate ourselves entirely to growing and supplying hardy ferns and tree ferns.
Why Ferns?
Ferns are an incredibly versatile group of plants. They grow comfortably alongside other garden plants, often enhancing them by adding texture, structure and contrast.
They are especially valuable in areas where flowering plants struggle – damp corners, shaded borders and sheltered spots. In these conditions, ferns don’t just survive, they thrive.
Their range in size and form allows them to be used almost anywhere, from small garden spaces to larger landscape settings.
Shows and Events
We attend a wide range of horticultural events throughout the season, travelling across the country with our plants.

Visiting the Nursery
You are very welcome to visit us at the nursery. As we spend much of the season attending shows, we ask that visits are arranged by appointment.
